World Hand Hygiene Day – 5 May 2025
Hand hygiene is a vital practice in our hospital and this year we took our Hand Hygiene Awareness Day to the next level. Using a UV light and glow-in-the-dark lotion, we demonstrated the importance of proper handwashing techniques in a fun and engaging way. After a few hours, we discovered just how often we tend to touch our faces — an important reminder for infection prevention. To round off the event, everyone was treated to a hand lotion as a small token of appreciation.

Crochet Blankets – Mandela Day 2024
We launched a special community project in March 2024 – crocheting blankets for Phambili, a local women’s shelter. This initiative not only provided warmth and comfort to those in need but also offered the opportunity to learn and share the art of crochet, fostering both skill and community spirit.
July 2024 we donated 12 blankets!

Soup Kitchen Project – Mandela Day 2024
In collaboration with our employees, we delivered 31 Jars of Hope and numerous soup products to a local soup kitchen for Mandela Day. This kitchen feeds hundreds of children, and we are grateful to everyone who contributed to making a difference.

Keep a Girl in School (Heatherlands High School) – 2023
Collaborating with our dedicated staff, we have contributed sanitary product packages monthly to a local high school, aiming to foster hygiene practices and support both girls and boys in maintaining their education during challenging circumstances.

Knit a bear for Mandela Day – July 2019
The South African Nursing Council launched a “Soft Toy” project for Mandela Day. The project was launched on the 19th of March 2019, with 14 people attending. George Surgical Centre sponsored wool. knitting pens and stuffing. Many couldn’t attend and wanted to knit at home, and so they did. The bears were displayed at the reception area and some of the patients decided to donate money towards the project to buy more wool.
The initial goal was 50 knitted bears to donate to George Provincial Hospital, but in the end we knitted 159 bears and 100 small dolls.
We donated to 4 places: George Hospital, Bethesda, George APD and Kids Stop.
